The second performance of the Laura Roth and Hui Cox music series will be a night to remember with world class entertainment. The Park Theater will be transformed into an intimate 1940’s jazz club where you can enjoy a drink and dessert while you enjoy the show from your candle lit table. Laura Roth, whom The New York Post calls “a show stopper”, sings the standards you know and love in her unique style, accompanied on guitar by producer-arranger and Grammy-nominated guitarist Hui Cox. Joining them, up from Manhattan just for this event, is pianist Anthony Wonsey, the accomplished young lion of the jazz world with forty-six CDs to his credit, having accompanied Kenny Garrett, Carl Allen, Nicholas Payton and many other greats.
We got lucky when Hui Cox landed in town. Teaching guitar at Bennington College and living in the Capital District, Hui is a celebrated producer, composer, Grammy nominee, and recipient of two grants for composition from the National Endowment for the Arts, who has toured the world and recorded with Cab Calloway, Odetta, Liza Minnelli, Melba Moore, Wilson Pickett, Stanley Turrentine, Richie Havens, The Temptations, The Four Tops, and many more of the greatest names in show business. It’s no surprise that he met and teamed up with unbeatable singer Laura Roth. She’s a “show-stopper” (New York Post) who has performed one-woman shows before audiences of thousands at major casino hotels, resorts and theaters up and down the east coast, and also makes her home in Glens Falls.
What a great combo they make! Through this partnership they have come home to their deepest musical love: jazz. They perform exciting and superbly confident renditions of Ella Fitzgerald, Cole Porter, Chaka Kahn, Chick Correa, Sting, Gershwin, and others. Laura will deliver the vocals and Hui will back her with electric, acoustic, classical, MIDIed 7-string guitar, mandolin, and electric bass, from his gorgeous collection of stringed instruments.
